What is Invisalign and how does it work?

Invisalign is an orthodontic system that uses a series of nearly invisible, removable plastic trays to move teeth gradually into place. Each aligner is custom‑made from a digital scan of your teeth and worn for about one to two weeks before advancing to the next set. You should wear your aligners 20–22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, drink anything besides water, and brush or floss. Like braces, Invisalign gently guides teeth into alignment; treatment length varies from a few months for minor adjustments to around 18 months for more complex movements.

Benefits of Invisalign:

* Discreet appearance: Clear aligners are barely visible, letting you smile confidently throughout treatment.
* Comfort: The aligners are smooth and custom‑fit, reducing irritation.
* Removable: You can eat your favorite foods and maintain regular brushing and flossing without the obstacles of brackets and wires.
* Fewer office visits: Computer‑guided treatment planning means you receive several sets of aligners at once and visit us only every few months for progress checks.
* Predictable results: Advanced digital simulations allow you to see your projected smile before treatment begins. Our doctors adjust the plan to achieve optimal results, even for complicated tooth movements.

Invisalign vs. braces

Invisalign and braces both rely on orthodontic principles to move teeth but differ in their design and lifestyle impact. Braces use brackets and wires affixed to teeth, while Invisalign uses removable trays. Braces may be better for very complex jaw corrections or patients who struggle with wearing aligners consistently. Invisalign offers aesthetics and convenience, but success depends on wearing the trays as prescribed. Our orthodontists will recommend the best option after evaluating your bite and goals. If your case is complex, we can integrate attachments or small auxiliaries to ensure aligners move teeth effectively, giving you the best of both worlds.

Am I a candidate?

Most teenagers and adults with mild to moderately complex orthodontic issues—including crowding, spacing, overbites, underbites and crossbites—are candidates for Invisalign. Even some more challenging cases can be treated successfully using clear aligners when planned by an experienced orthodontist. Our doctors conduct a comprehensive exam to determine if Invisalign is right for you. If your case requires a different approach, we offer ceramic, self‑ligating or traditional metal braces. Regardless of complexity, we tailor your treatment to deliver a healthy, beautiful smile.
